Get a grip on a long and healthy life
Hi Folks,
Can you take steps now to take good care of your future self?
A loud and resounding: YES!
Last newsletter I discussed mobility as an indicator of longevity and shared a relatively easy exercise to increase mobility. This week, I want to continue that theme by noting midlife grip strength is another key predictor of longevity and functional ability in one’s later years!
Check out this video for a (by no means exhaustive) guideline in developing grip strength while also improving posture, spine health, and overall mobility! By developing grip strength now, we can increase our chances of greater physical ease as we age.
Let’s take a moment to recognize that our body in the present is the body of our past and the body of our future. It is never too late to improve our musculoskeletal fitness. Never! Time itself, or “old age,” is not the sole or inevitable cause of our ailments. Or as I like to say it: Age is not a slow walk to decrepitude!
By choosing to be present and curious about our bodies, we can make small, sustainable changes that can determine how we feel in our body years from now.
That’s all for now.
